Phenergan in my experince has caused paradoxical excitment as my GP put it. The children were uncontrollable and it does not work on overtired or jetlagged kids. The day after hangover from the drug lasted 3 days and it was an awful start to the holidays. I wish I never used it. I've travelled 28hrs with two children now and good planning and break is a better solution for all rather than a potential sleep of 8hrs that may or may not happen. THe nurses advice is the best.

i think it is a disgrace that adults are giving this type of medication to thier children to keep them quiet on a flight if you cant cope dont take them so far. I was prescribed this medication for vertigo and the side effects to me as an adult were awful for gods sake think about what your giving your children and the reasons for giving it.

I gave it to my son when he was about 18 months old. He woke up after 15 mins and was so agressive, I just wanted to throw myself out the plane it was that bad and a 10 hour flight. When I got back home my Mum informed me that it used to have the same effect on me when I was a baby! Never again..

I have used phenergan successfully on many long haul flights with my three children. (we live in new zealand and have flown to UK several times) I was advised by the pharmacist to give the full dose to ensure it works properly, otherwise it can have the reverse effect. Also I wait until they have eaten a meal and the cabin lights are being turned off - on a night flight. I have also used it occasionally to help with jet lag at the destination ie . when they wake up at 3am ready to start the day!! As they have grown older I don't need to use it. However by far the best bet is to fly with an airline with a decent entertainment system!

SERIOUSLY THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!
I AM A QUALIFIED PAEDIATRIC NURSE (WORKING IN INTENSIVE CARE)AND A PARENT. I URGE ALL PARENTS OUT THERE USING MEDICATION FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED PURPOSES TO STOP. WE USE THE ABOVE MENTIONED MEDICATION IN A CONTROLLED SAFE ENVIRONMENT, AND DOSAGE IS CALCULATED ON WEIGHT AND AGE. A PLANE OR ABROAD IS CERTAINLY NOT A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS FROM THE MISUSE OF THESE DRUGS COULD BE LIFE THREATENING. ![]() |
