Why

Carinthia is Austria’s sunniest province, it borders Slovenia and Italy.  It is renowned for its hot summers and bright crisp winters and hence an excellent place to take the family.  The landscape is breath taking and varied, with mountains, gentle hills and rugged peaks.  There are also more than 1270 lakes in the region and 200 of those are suitable for bathing.

When

In Winter – There is plenty of snow for winter sports.  The nursery slopes are good and there is a host of English speaking instructors.  The above average hours of sunshine mean that conditions are usually very good, which really helps when taking smaller children.

In Summer – the beautiful crystal clear warm lakes are very popular in the warmer months.  The water is so pure that it is of drinking quality and it is naturally heated up to 28 degrees which is perfect for a whole range of water sports.

How

There are many low cost carriers operating flights to destinations within an hour and halfs drive.  There are 3 flights a week from Stanstead to Klagenfurt Airport (capital of Carinthia) with Ryanair.   Ryanair also operate flights to Graz, Trieste (Italy), and Salzburg, whilst EasyJet flies to Ljubljana Airport (Slovenia).

Stay

There are 9 Kinderhotels in Carinthia, two of which have 5 smiley faces which is the best of the group.  They offer a fantastic service and the hotels are only occupied with families with babies and young children. For more information on accommodation visit the .

Do

Skiing, Skating and winter sports

Outdoor Activities
There are lots of watersport opportunities, such as windsurfing, water skiing and sailing as well as great terrain for hiking, cycling, rock climbing.

Minimundus on Lake Worthsee
One of Carinthia’s most popular attractions, this park full of 150 minature models of the world’s most famous buildings is probably worth a visit.
