The Ionian Island of Lefkas is surprisingly green and mountainous, with a seemingly endless number of long, sandy beaches. This quiet island, connected to the mainland by a bridge, is a fantastic place for watersports, with numerous bays and small islands for you to explore, including Skorpios, the island owned by the Onassis family. The main town of Lefkada is set around a picturesque bay, with traditional multi-coloured timber framed houses and a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Lefkas gets its name from the 'White Rock' which frames the beaches on the west coast. You’ll soon see why this very fertile island is famous for its lush vegetation, olive trees, vines and fruit. It’s a great place to enjoy lazy lunches in the summer sun and forget about the 9 to 5.
Summer is the best time to visit to make the most of the fantastic watersports the island has to offer. Most hotels are open from May to October, with July and August the busiest (and hottest!) months.
Weekly charter flights from Gatwick and Manchester run from May to October. The island is also accessible via a bridge from the mainland and it’s about a four hour drive from Athens.

The town of Nidri has dozens of tavernas and restaurants offering a range of freshly cooked traditional Greek dishes, with lots of salads and fish. You’ll also find plenty of British menu favourites if you’re travelling with fussy eaters
Eating out is relatively inexpensive by UK standards. The cheapest way to get active on the water is to book an activity package holiday which includes watersports in the price.
